Ibiza and Formentera together form one of the Mediterranean’s most compelling charter destinations. The two islands sit just 3 nautical miles apart, connected by shallow turquoise waters that rival anything in the Caribbean. This guide covers everything you need to know to plan a yacht charter in the Pitiusas.
When to Charter
The charter season runs from May to October. June and September offer the best balance of warm weather, calm seas, and manageable crowds. July and August bring peak temperatures (30–35°C), the liveliest beach club scene, and the highest demand for yachts — book 6–12 months ahead for these months. May and October are cooler but offer excellent sailing conditions and significantly lower rates.
Ibiza’s Best Anchorages
Cala Salada — A sheltered cove on the west coast with pine-covered cliffs and clear water over sand at 4–6 metres. Arrive before 11:00 to secure a spot.
Cala Comte — Famous for its sunset views, this series of rocky beaches offers anchorage in 5–8 metres. The beach restaurants serve excellent seafood.
Cala Jondal — Home to Blue Marlin beach club, this south-facing bay is popular with superyachts. Anchor in 6–10 metres over sand.
Es Vedrà — The iconic limestone rock off Ibiza’s southwest coast. While you cannot land, anchoring nearby in 8–12 metres offers dramatic views and excellent snorkelling.
Talamanca — A wide sandy bay just north of Ibiza Town, ideal for an overnight anchorage with easy tender access to restaurants and the old town.
Formentera’s Highlights
Ses Illetes — Consistently rated among Europe’s best beaches, this narrow peninsula offers anchorage in 2–4 metres of impossibly clear water over white sand. The beach restaurants Juan y Andrea and Es Ministre are accessible by tender.
Cala Saona — A west-facing cove with red cliffs and turquoise water. Anchor in 3–5 metres. The sunset here is one of the best in the Balearics.
Es Caló de Sant Agustí — A traditional fishing harbour on the north coast with several excellent restaurants. Anchor outside the harbour in 4–6 metres.
Beach Clubs & Dining
Ibiza’s beach club culture is central to the charter experience. Blue Marlin (Cala Jondal), Nikki Beach (Santa Eulalia), and Experimental Beach (Cap des Falcó) are the most popular with charter guests. For fine dining, Sublimotion (Hard Rock Hotel) holds two Michelin stars, while La Gaia at Ibiza Gran Hotel offers creative Mediterranean cuisine.
On Formentera, dining is more relaxed. Juan y Andrea at Ses Illetes serves the freshest seafood on the island, and Can Carlos in Sant Ferran is a traditional family-run restaurant that has been operating since 1978.
