How To Charter a Yacht

How To Charter a Yacht

Your complete guide to chartering a yacht in the Mediterranean with Bluebnc Yachting

Chartering a yacht with Bluebnc is straightforward, personal, and entirely stress-free. Whether this is your first time on the water or your twentieth season, our charter advisors handle every detail — so you can focus on the experience itself.

Six Steps to Your Perfect Charter

01

Choose Your Destination

Tell us where and when. Our advisors will recommend the ideal cruising ground based on your dates, group size, interests, and the prevailing conditions — from the sheltered calas of Mallorca to the glamour of the Côte d’Azur.

02

Select Your Yacht

Browse our managed fleet and partner vessels online, or let your advisor curate a shortlist. Filter by length, guest capacity, amenities, and charter rate. Every yacht comes with a professional captain and crew as standard.

03

Customise Your Itinerary

Work with our team to build a bespoke route. We draw on thousands of logged nautical miles to recommend anchorages, restaurants, and experiences that match your rhythm — whether that’s secluded coves, waterfront dining, or vibrant harbour towns.

04

Confirm & Prepare

Once your charter is confirmed via MYBA E-Contract, we handle provisioning, dietary requirements, water toys, transfers, and any special requests. Your preference sheet ensures the crew knows exactly how to prepare.

05

Embark & Enjoy

Step aboard a yacht that has been prepared specifically for you. The crew handles navigation, cooking, service, and logistics. Your only responsibility is to enjoy the Mediterranean.

06

Post-Charter Support

After disembarkation, your advisor follows up to ensure complete satisfaction. We welcome feedback, and most clients begin planning their next voyage within weeks of stepping ashore.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a yacht charter?+

For peak season (July–August) in the Mediterranean, we recommend booking 6–12 months in advance to secure the best yachts. Shoulder season charters (May–June, September–October) can often be arranged 2–4 months ahead. Last-minute availability is sometimes possible, especially for our managed fleet.

What is included in a crewed yacht charter?+

A crewed charter typically includes the yacht, captain, crew, fuel for a standard cruising itinerary, bed linens, towels, and basic water toys. Food, beverages, marina fees, and special requests (e.g., additional water toys, event decorations) are usually arranged separately through an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA).

What is the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance)?+

The APA is a fund — typically 25–35% of the charter fee — paid before embarkation to cover running expenses such as food, beverages, fuel, marina fees, and any special requests. At the end of the charter, the captain provides a detailed accounting. Any unused funds are returned to you.

Do I need a licence to charter a yacht?+

No. All Bluebnc charters come with a professional captain and crew. You do not need any sailing or boating licence. If you prefer to be hands-on, skippered options are available where the captain guides you while you take the helm in open water.

What is the MYBA Charter Agreement?+

The MYBA Charter Agreement is the industry-standard contract used worldwide for yacht charters. It clearly defines the responsibilities of the charterer and the yacht owner, covering payment terms, cancellation policy, insurance, and liability. Bluebnc uses MYBA E-Contracts for all term charters.

Can I charter a yacht for just one day?+

Yes. Bluebnc offers day charters in Mallorca and Ibiza, typically running from 10:00 to 18:00 or 10:00 to 20:00. Day charters are ideal for exploring nearby coves, beaches, and coastline without the commitment of a multi-day voyage. Browse our day charter yachts for available options.

What happens in case of bad weather?+

Your captain monitors weather conditions continuously and adjusts the itinerary to ensure safety and comfort. In the Mediterranean, summer conditions are generally stable, but if conditions are genuinely unsafe, the captain may suggest sheltering in a marina or adjusting the route. Charter contracts include provisions for weather-related changes.

Are children welcome on yacht charters?+

Absolutely. Many of our yachts are family-friendly, equipped with child safety nets, high chairs, and age-appropriate water toys. Our crew can accommodate dietary requirements for children and plan itineraries with calm anchorages and beach stops suitable for young guests.
