St Barth is a compact island whose nature reserve protects several of its best-known bays and islets. The reserve covers Colombier and Fourchue bays and islets including Gros Îlets, Pain de Sucre, Toc Vers and Frégate, where speed, anchoring and watersports are closely regulated. Gustavia is the usual point of arrival; yachts call the harbour master on VHF channel 12 before manoeuvring in the port area.
Our charter collection lists St Barth together with St Martin as one cruising area. A yacht shown here may have its listed base in St Barth or St Martin, or elsewhere — for example The Bahamas, the Virgin Islands or the Mediterranean — and reposition for the Caribbean season. Each card shows the listed base, and your advisor confirms where and when the yacht will be positioned for your dates.

Cruising grounds
The island's harbour town and port of arrival. Yachts use the access channel and call the harbour master on VHF 12 before manoeuvring, and a 5-knot limit applies in the channel and harbour areas.
These reserve bays are among the island's most sought-after anchorages. Vessels over 25 metres are not authorised there; smaller vessels may use the ecological buoys — up to 20 tonnes and 25 metres, for a maximum of 96 hours.
Around the reserve islets, a 5-knot limit applies within 100 metres, and the AGOA marine mammal sanctuary forbids approaching marine mammals within 300 metres.
Neighbouring St Martin is part of the same cruising area in our collection, and some yachts are listed there. It is a practical place to embark before crossing to St Barth.
Plan with confidence
Because vessels over 25 metres may not enter Colombier and Fourchue bays, your captain plans where a larger yacht lies and how guests reach the reserve. Anchoring is prohibited throughout the reserve except in designated parts of these two bays.
Inside the reserve, jet skis, seabobs, e-foils and other motorised devices are prohibited, as are towed sports. Watersports are planned for waters where they are permitted.
Commercial activities in the reserve require prior authorisation from the island's environment agency, and yachts reposition seasonally around the hurricane season. Your advisor confirms both for your dates.
Questions guests ask
Short, sourced answers. Rates, availability and inclusions are always confirmed in writing by your advisor.
St Barth charters are quoted individually, based on the yacht, dates, duration and positioning. Where a yacht shows a from-rate, it is indicative; your advisor confirms the final quote and inclusions in writing.
No. Vessels over 25 metres are not authorised in Colombier and Fourchue bays, which are part of the St Barth nature reserve. Smaller vessels may use the ecological mooring buoys there — up to 20 tonnes and 25 metres, for a maximum of 96 hours, after which they must leave for at least 96 hours.
Not inside the nature reserve: jet skis, seabobs, e-foils and other motorised watersports devices, as well as towed sports, are prohibited there. Outside the reserve, a 5-knot limit applies within 300 metres of the coast and in harbour and anchorage areas, so watersports are planned where they are permitted.
Winter and spring are the main charter period. The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from 1 June to 30 November, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October, and many yachts reposition outside the Caribbean during those months.
Not necessarily. Our collection lists St Barth and St Martin as one cruising area, so a yacht's listed base may be elsewhere, with the yacht repositioning for the season. Each card shows the listed base, and your advisor confirms positioning for your dates.
Regulations and local information checked against official sources on 2 October 2026. Rules change; your captain confirms current requirements before departure.
